Pivot Doors in a luxury Texas home

The Texas-sized front door

Oversized Luxury Pivot Doors

The biggest front doors in Texas swing on a pivot. We design them in steel, wood, glass and aluminum — scaled to your home and matched to every window around them.

Pivot Doors in Texas

What you need to know

A pivot door rotates on a pin set into the floor and the head of the frame instead of on side hinges. Because the weight sits on that pivot, one panel can be far taller, wider and heavier than a hinged door could ever carry — which is why statement entries are almost always pivot doors.

BigDoorTexas builds offset and center pivot doors for new custom homes and remodels across Texas. We coordinate the sidelites, transoms, hardware and the surrounding windows so the whole facade reads as one design instead of a door bolted onto a house.

Styles & configurations

Types of pivot doors

Offset pivot doors

The most popular entry. The pivot sits in from the edge, so the door swings like a hinged door with a wider walk-through.

Center pivot doors

The pivot sits mid-panel and the door rotates both ways — dramatic for galleries, courtyards and interior spaces.

Steel & glass pivot doors

Thermally broken steel frames with full-lite or divided glass in black, bronze or custom colors.

Wood pivot doors

White oak, walnut, sapele, cedar and more — plank, fluted, slatted or carved, on a stabilized core.

Aluminum & glass pivot doors

Slim, insulated and modern, with a huge range of colors and glass styles.

Clad & hidden pivot doors

Faced in stone, metal, wood or siding to disappear into the facade.

Pivot doors with sidelites & transoms

Fixed glass beside and above the door to fill grand two-story openings with light.

Interior pivot doors

For offices, closets, wine rooms and media rooms.

Built for Texas

Texas sun is brutal on big doors. A dark, west-facing door can get extremely hot, and the wrong build will bow or bind. We spec thermally broken frames, stabilized cores and Low-E glass, recommend covered entries for oversized wood, and offer impact-rated options with windstorm documentation for coastal projects.

Pivot Doors FAQ

What is a pivot door?

A pivot door turns on a pivot pin anchored in the floor and the top of the frame rather than on side hinges. That lets a single door be much larger and heavier while still opening smoothly with a light push.

How big can a pivot door be?

It depends on material, hardware and the opening. Lone Star Classic pivots are built around grand standard heights, Longhorn Robust goes taller and wider on heavy-duty hardware, and Texas Special doors are engineered case by case for true statement sizes. Send us your opening and we will tell you what is possible.

Are pivot doors good for Texas heat and storms?

Yes, when they are built for it. We use thermally broken frames, stabilized or steel cores, Low-E insulated glass and quality seals, and we offer impact-rated pivot doors for the Gulf Coast and storm-prone areas.

Are pivot doors secure?

Our pivot doors use multipoint locks that secure the door at several points, with smart-lock, keypad and fingerprint options. Laminated glass adds another layer of security.

Can a pivot door replace my existing front door?

Often, yes. Because pivot doors carry weight on the floor and header, the opening may need framing or flooring work. We measure and tell you exactly what your opening needs before you order.

How long does a custom pivot door take?

Lead times depend on the collection, material and manufacturer. We give you a clear schedule with your proposal and keep you updated from order to installation.
